Is your sliding glass door becoming harder to open or sticking to the tracks? If so, cleaning the track is an easy and effective way to have your door open properly again.

What You Need to Clean a Sliding Glass Door Tracks

Cleaning your sliding door tracks doesn’t call for expensive cleaners or special tools. All you need is a few items you likely already have at home. Types of Sliding Doors

Each type of sliding door has its own unique look and function. The most common is the traditional classic style with its two large panes of glass. For those who want to capture the elegant look of a French door but also need to save on space, a French-style rail door is the perfect choice. Contemporary sliding doors add modern sophistication to any room. All these options are designed to perfectly fit your style and needs.

Steps to Clean Your Sliding Glass Door Tracks

Step 1. Try a Handheld Vacuum

To efficiently remove larger loose debris, use a handheld vacuum or the thin attachment on your regular vacuum on the track. If it looks mostly clean after, a wipe with soap and water on the inside and outside of the track may be all you need.

Step 2. Add Baking Soda

If you notice some dirt and debris still lingering, it’s time to bring in a tougher cleaning solution. For this, sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda covering the track.

Step 3. Add Hydrogen Peroxide

Once you have a layer of baking soda, pour hydrogen peroxide lightly onto the track and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. The resulting chemical reaction breaks up the grime and raises the unseen dirt to the top, making it easier to wipe it away. You’ll want to give the solution a few minutes to settle before you wipe, though.

Step 4. Wipe Away the Remaining Debris

After a few minutes, take your paper towels or rag to wipe and dry the track. If any leftover residue remains, a quick water rinse will clean it right up.
